Japan Diaries: Nozawaonsen Village Japan, January 2019. Stayed at Elizabeth Hotel - 〒389-2502 Nagano, Shimotakai District, Nozawaonsen, Toyosato, 9418 4.
All photos taken by me and Hai with Canon D70.

A year late, but I still love these memories. After a few days at crazy Akihabara Hai and I took a three hour JR bullet train to sleepy Nagano. A bus ride later we were at the base of Nozawaonsen.
With our luggage, we made ourselves up the hilly village along footpaths covered in snow. The locals used running water to clear help the way. We stayed at the quaint Elizabeth Hotel where they gave you slippers to wear around the hotel and a hosted a cute Breakfast buffet - I ate alot of local Fuji Apple Jam and muesli with Hokkaido milk.

We arrived a couple of days earlier so we could witness the famous Nozawa Onsen Fire Festival being prepared by the locals. It's one that is held on the 15th of January and the villagers start cutting trees in October that were bought down from the mountain It then gets made into a huge wooden structure or 'shaden' and at night the 'Fire-Burning' event takes place.

This is the first time I visited a village as beautiful as this.. dotted with small onsens, shrines, friendly people with a stunning backdrop of snow covered mountains and trees. I can't wait to share more of my Nozawaonsen stay in the next few posts.
