Today was one of those days where I revisited old music that triggered old memories. I had an Ipod, one of those classic ones that held 65gbs of my music spanning over 5-6 years. It served as a DJ for all my birthdays from 19 years to 25 years. It played music at all my BBQs, roadtrips, my friend's engagement party, and beach trips and picnics. It was my escape, my solitude and for most of my youth, my only friend!
Then on my 26th birthday, it just died. Died. I turned it on intending to make a playlist for my birthday party, and all the music was wiped out. Perfect playlists, consistent album covers and old music that's rare to find - all gone!

I was heart broken for weeks. But I finally purchased a new Ipod, and it sat untouched for a while (too stubburn). Then today, I don't know, I felt like listening to my old music again. I added all my music from long lost hard drives straight back into my Ipod, and set out to rename alot of music files.

I stumbled upon some old music I haven't listened to in about 4 years - some old school Jay Chou tunes (yes, I was into alot of Asian Music) and to this day I still don't understand his songs but I found myself humming to familiar tunes. Memories then suddenly came flooding in.. a lonely 19 year old me catching the train to TAFE feeling sad that I haven't found a good boyfriend; the gleeful moment I heard a Jay Chou ringtone from the phone of my boy crush at the time; Karaoke nights with Jay Chou songs featured. All memories of when I was 18 to 20 years old.  I admit, was a very awkward time for me when I wasn't confident in myself, still clung onto guys or didn't know how to wear my hair or realise that white flare pants, sucks.

These days I listen a good mix - The Weeknd, Paramore, Lorde, Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles etc. I wear my hair the way I want to, I wear leather and lace and I am a confident happy traveller when I take the train. I am happy to leave my cringe-worthy past behind; yet I know going down memory lane with that Jay Chou music really made me appreciate the type of confident person I am today. Now going to stop looking back, and keep looking forward.
