Hi all! Hope everything has been fantastic. I'm so grateful for EVERY single comment I've been getting~ I read every single one. But I have been so busy last week, with interviews face to face, phone interviews, preparing for my blog, preparing for parties and ...being sick. I'm currently sitting in my bed with my dog at my feet trying not to cough all over my laptop.

Anyways~ thank goodness I took these photos just before I got sick. I shall now attend to everyone's blogs and thank you all.

I had an interesting time taking these photos for this post. I went into the city earlier that day and I was perfectly dressed for the environment. However I came back to my area (which is a much quieter and conservative one) and bought some ice cream. While I was walking around I got lots of "weird" looks from the locals. It was a bit intimidating and I felt self-conscious. I think I felt  they thought I was "over-dressed" or too "loud".

*Sigh*

But then, you know, I just took a deep breath and thought, "These people don't know who I am, they cannot judge me on my looks or what I am wearing. I am a good, kind, compassionate person no matter how they look at me". That, and I also had a Madonna song in my head. And we all know Madonna believes in being self confident and to not take crap from anyone else.

In conclusion, I was being stared at because I was in a leather skirt, had dark lipstick and had leather thigh high boots. I was getting "looks" but I should never let it get me down, because I was being myself.  Sometimes its easy to forget that message, but I have to remind myself every day, and everyone who reads this post should remember this message too.

xx Natalie

  1. Natalie, I really love this post! I think I need constant reminder that it is okay being myself, even if I attract attention or weird looks! One thing I always find weird is wearing heels during the day. You live in Sydney too, so you know exactly what I mean! Sydneysiders wear thongs and short skirts and go to the beach, and sometimes I get looks as if saying "this is not New York! This is not london! What are you wearing?!" I guess the really laid back lifestyle does not go with wearing heels 24-7! But hey you look fabulous all the time and sometimes I do think I need to just ignore people and wear whatever I want!

  16. Damn you are pretty! Love the boots :)

    I can totally empathize to your experience with staring. In my little city I always have to think what I should or should not wear. People look weird if I, or someone else, puts on too showing clothes. I don't meen showing by revealing but showing as something not so normal. And I try to do like you do and just go the way I want to and think that if they think I'm strange, I know I look beautiful :) So let's not let anyone else pick our outfits okay? ;)

  18. I love both your outfit and your post. Everything you wrote is SO right. Sometimes I feel like the fact that I'm a small town girl stops me from doing and wearing whatever I want. I hate seeing judgemental people giving the others strange looks. That's why, I'm more than glad to see that you're doing your own thing :) Keep it up, girl!

  22. Brilliant look. We dress for ourselves, not others, so their opinions (which vary) don't have to count. Like you, I'll take chances in fashion and sometimes attract negative comments, usually from people who are jealous at how far out I'm going. I've learned to sluff off those remarks and so should you. Your style is individual and terrific!

  23. Natalie, first off. Great post..loving every single piece and girlfriend you look HOT, so please don' let it upset you in anyway. If others are looking at you, it's because you look good and some might be either jealous or they are drooling over how HOT you look. I love it when people take risk in fashion because there is no harm in it at all. Sometimes, we get it wrong but it's no big deal. I respect that you are showing confidence and poise. lastly, hope you get well soon.. love, Sheryl

  49. Natalie I think you look lovely! Don't worry about getting looks, I think a lot of the time people are just admiring a nice outfit rather than judging someone for wearing something a bit 'out there'!

    It's hard sometimes to ignore the looks, as we all want to feel confident in what we're wearing. But you look amazing and you shouldn't let the looks of a select few people get to you :) xx

  53. That is so funny. I'm also from Sydney so it would be interesting to know which suburb that was in! Hahaha. I think it may be the thigh high boots. People here can be so narrow-minded, they must assume those boots are only worn by certain girls! There is no such thing as parisian chic, only flip flops. Lol.

    I think you look fabulous :-)

  59. Those thigh high boots are so hot!!! I love how you paired it up with a chunky knit and leather skirt. It gives it a little bit of sex appeal without being overly sexy.

    I get self concious in my neighborhood esp. when my bf and i are out taking outfit pictures. I hate when people walk by and stare. It makes me feel....odd. But I always ignore them and just keep doing my own thing. I use to also feel self concious whenever I would wear my JC's out but screw whatever one else thinks. As long as you feel good about what you have on that's all that matters. Plus you have great style :)

    Anyway, I'm glad that you posted on that last part of your post. It's hard when ever people are judging you; and in the past; I used to feel really conscious... But hey, I agree with what you said; to never let those people; who don't know you, judge you;

    Really love this quote that goes like this;
